Who is my organisation's nominated contact?

An organisation's 'nominated contact' is the person who will receive communications from us about your registration, including renewal notices. This can be your Data Protection Officer or someone else in your organisation.

Your nominated contact is either:

  • the person who set up your original registration with us; or
  • the person recorded on our system as the nominated contact for receiving registration and fee related communications. 

This is often your data protection officer, a member of HR or finance, an accountant or director or, in the case of a school, the Headteacher.

If you need to change your nominated contact, the quickest way is to ask the current nominated contact to update your organisation's details online.

What to do if you don't know your nominated contact or they've left the organisation?

If you can't find out who the nominated contact is in your organisation or they've left, you can email us a request to change your nominated contact.   

You must include: 

  • the name of the organisation you wish to update;
  • the organisation's registration reference; 
  • the name, email address, job title, telephone number and postal address of the new nominated contact; and
  • your name and job title (if different from the above). 

Where possible we'll update our records when we receive your request. However, if there are any issues actioning the request - we'll contact you as soon as possible. 

 

What does it mean to be a nominated contact?

As a nominated contact you can inform us of any changes to your registration using your security number , for example:

  • cancellation of existing registration;
  • a change in turnover or staff;
  • a change in nominated contact; or
  • any legal status changes.

You will receive communications from us about your registration(s), including renewal notices.

 

What is my security number and when will I need it?

Your security number is automatically generated by the ICO and will be valid for all registrations where you have been identified as the nominated contact.

What should I do if I forget my security number?

If you have forgotten or misplaced your security number, we can send this to you as the nominated contact again. Please contact us at [email protected].

I have more than one security number, what should I do?

If you have more than one security number, this means we have more than one contact record for you. Please contact us at [email protected] and we can help to resolve this.
