Chief Constable Commissioner for the Metropolis (Metropolitan Police Service)
- Date 12 January 2026
- Sector Police and criminal justice
- Decision(s) FOI 23: Not upheld, FOI 24: Not upheld
The complainant has requested information about the reporting of suspected ‘damaging activities’ in relation to foreign powers, from the Metropolitan Police Service (the “MPS”). The MPS would neither confirm nor deny (“NCND”) holding the requested information, citing sections 23(5) (Information relating to, or supplied by, security bodies), 24(2) (National security), 27(4) (International relations), 30(3) (Investigations and proceedings) and 31(3) (Law enforcement) of FOIA. The Commissioner’s decision is that the MPS was entitled to rely on
section 23(5) of FOIA with section 24(2) in the alternative. No steps are required.
