Creating up to £233 million of economic value for businesses over a five-year period

We enable businesses to thrive. Our 2025 Enabling Businesses report shows that our support is helping organisations unlock cost savings and growth opportunities worth up to approximately £233 million over a five-year period. This is an average of around £47 million per year.

We deliver this impact through a wide range of services, including:

  • business advice helpline, casework and live chat;
  • user-friendly digital tools;
  • innovation advice and our regulatory sandbox;
  • cybersecurity advice and activity; and
  • certification schemes.

We’re driving growth and innovation by sharing practical resources and guidance. For example, we published data protection and freedom of information training materials that were originally created for our own colleagues. People had viewed them over 56,000 times by November 2025.

We’ve also shaped the conversation on emerging technologies by publishing reports on immersive tech and quantum computing.

To make compliance easier, we introduced practical tools for small organisations, including a privacy notice generator and a direct marketing advice generator. We also published:

  • advice pages to help organisations take advantage of the Data (Use and Access) Act; and
  • a new guidance timeline webpage to give businesses clarity on what’s coming next.

Our innovation services help businesses design privacy and security into new ideas. This enables them to bring privacy-respectful products and services to market while protecting people’s personal data. In 2024/25, we engaged with 83 organisations, providing direct support to 31 of them. This is up from the 49 companies we engaged and the 28 we supported in 2023/24.

Our work helps businesses to:

  • access expert advice;
  • reduce compliance costs;
  • build trust; and
  • innovate responsibly.

Published anonymised advice and sandbox exit reports bring other benefits, such as a growing knowledge base on novel data protection issues. This creates positive multiplier effects and efficiencies, which can benefit wider businesses in the UK economy.

The UK is now leading the way in certification schemes, with five data protection schemes approved and published so far.

We’ll continue to support businesses by providing practical tools, clear guidance and expert advice, helping organisations innovate, stay compliant and grow.
