What you’ll need

-
information about the wrongdoing, risk or malpractice you’ve witnessed
It's helpful if you can also provide:
- a copy of any relevant letters or emails you sent to the organisation raising your concerns and any responses you received
-
any supporting evidence you have about what you witnessed eg a copy of an email where information was shared, a copy of records with inaccurate information, an image of incorrectly stored information or poor procedure
-
how many people have likely to have been affected
-
if any other people know about the wrongdoing
Don't worry if you don't have this information call us on 0303 123 1113 or live chat with us so we can help you.
What will the outcome of my whistleblowing complaint be?
There are a number of possible outcomes to your complaint.
-
We’ll review your report and contact you for further information (if you choose to provide contact details). We may need to contact you for more information to help us understand your case and what action we can take.
-
We’ll investigate and take action to improve the organisation’s information rights practices. We can investigate the organisation’s practices to identify issues and tell the organisation to make changes to their policies and procedures.
-
We’ll take legal action. We can issue fines or prosecute organisations or individuals who have committed illegal activities.
-
We don't take action. Despite your concerns, it might be that the evidence or information you provide can’t be acted upon without compromising your anonymity. We can try to reduce this risk by supporting your evidence with data we already hold, but sometimes this isn’t possible. We’ll still keep a record of the issues you raise with us and use it to build a picture of poor performing organisations. We may be able to take action in the future if we receive more detail or evidence from you or other people.
