When should we provide copies of logs to others?
Latest updates - 04 November 2025
04 November 2025 - We have updated this section of the guidance to reflect amendments from the Data (Use and Access) Act.
You must record accurate logs. You should be able to understand the logs you record and ensure they can be understood by others.
Inaccurate or confusing logs could prevent or hinder an internal investigation into suspicious activity in the system. Clear and adequate logs are especially important if you provide them to administrators or investigators in your organisation or make them available to us on request.
You must ensure you are able to able to comply with a request from us for sight or evidence of your logs. We may make a request if we need the logs for an audit, complaint or investigation. You should have the ability to provide or display logs in a format that is easily understood and clear, if requested.
