The complainant submitted an information request to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) regarding the handling of personal data by Telegram and WhatsApp. The ICO relied upon section 12(2) (cost of compliance) of FOIA to refuse to comply with the request.
The Commissioner’s decision is that the ICO was entitled to rely upon section 12(2) of FOIA to refuse to comply with the request. He also finds that the ICO met its obligations under section 16(1) of FOIA to provide advice and assistance.
The Commissioner does not require further steps as a result of this decision notice.
