The ICO exists to empower you through information.

The ICO has conducted and commissioned a number of reports on customer satisfaction and information rights.

UK public's views

Public Attitudes on Information Rights (PAIR)

Our PAIR survey provides a benchmark of the public’s understanding of their information rights, identifies barriers and opportunities for public engagement across demographic groups, and measures progress of our ICO25 commitments.

This is part of a wider research project which will be carried out annually to monitor people's perceptions over time.

Data Lives

Data Lives provides the ICO with a foundational, empathy-led picture of what the UK public are thinking, feeling and doing regarding their personal information.

We wanted to bring to life people’s views and experiences of how they use personal information, what role it plays in their life and to observe how views change over time.

Public Awareness Research 2022

Our Public Awareness survey explored people’s perceptions of the ICO and the work we do compared to other regulators. It also measured people’s awareness of their data rights, and how they exercise these rights. Revealing Reality conducted the survey online in July 2022 with a nationally representative sample of 2,067 adults across the UK.

Consumer Perspectives on Data Privacy

The ICO commissioned Accent to undertake research to understand consumers' willingness to share different types of personal data, the trade-offs they’re prepared to make and levels of trust in how organisations use their personal data.

Understanding the user experience of fertility and period tracking apps

This research was commissioned to build up the ICO’s understanding of the user experience of apps whose primary purpose is related to fertility or menstruation. The ICO required a more thorough understanding of how people select, sign up and use these apps as part of their daily lives and their experiences of these apps. In addition the research explores people’s understanding and expectations of how their personal information is used by these apps.
