Information Society Services (ISS) research
The Children’s code applies to Information Society Services (ISS) providers that are likely to be accessed by children.
The ICO commissioned mixed-methods research to build a more robust evidence base regarding the scale, profile and characteristics of ISS providers, including those in scope of the Children’s code. This study gives a better understanding of the organisations we regulate. It provides:
- estimated number of UK-based ISS providers and number of services likely to be accessed by children;
- market analysis for four sectors of interest – social media platforms, video sharing platforms, gaming, and direct-to-consumer EdTech; and
- user research with 114 participants across 20 sectors.
